Patent trolls and external influence
There are trolls and there are the real inventors; and the problem of differentiating between the two has led to possibly a new and even bigger problem, says this.
I am talking about the possibility of inventors not being rewarded adequately for their hard work or not being compensated enough when they discover that their work has been stolen or the trolls being compensated unjustly in the courts for ‘ideas’ borrowed from others but copyrighted or patented first….
What’s really new about that? Is there really anything like originality among humans? Where do our ideas really come from?
Is there really anything new under the sun? What hasn't been done?
Ha-ha...that last question just reminded me of one Lord Kelvin (I think), who, as President of the British Scientific Society in the Jackie Chan movie "Around The World In 80 Days", claimed, rather myopically, that everything that could be invented had been invented already!
If dreamed up, sparked off by a vision, inspired by something/someone heard or listened to, or just came upon by happenstance, is that not done by coincidence or under the external influence?
So, what’s the big deal with the complaints about the possibility of the proposed Patent Reform Bill becoming a “chill on innovation”?
If anyone wants to make money from an invention without sharing the proceeds with anybody else, then he/she should be ready and capable of writing or paying for a watertight legal patent/copyright document to that effect – like the Coca-Cola Company has done with its decades old soft drink Coke formula.
