American football is so aggressive that steel helmets and shoulder paddings are standard equipment - obviously not in the same league of violent sports as soccer, rugby, or even ice hockey with its mean brawls.
Nevertheless, the game is a national pastime that almost everyone wished they could play - even the 'players' acknowledge the uniqueness of the game, if only for the sake of the Cheerleaders.
Anyway, opinions differ always about which teams will go far during the season and which ones would fizzle out before the Super Bowl.
